Studio Services FAQ
Find answers to the most common questions about my studio services below. If your question isn't listed, feel free to get in touch directly.
What services do you offer?
I offer recording, editing, production, mixing, mastering, songwriting, custom guitar tracks, session musician work, vocal tuning, music arrangement, stem mixing, orchestration, and sound design — in VARO Studio Amsterdam and remotely worldwide.
Who is behind VARO Studio Amsterdam?
I'm Bob Varo — music producer, recording engineer, and guitarist, graduate of the Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam. I've worked with Warner Chappell Music, Disturbed, Hellyeah, Sigala, and Madeline Rosene, and I personally handle every project from start to finish.
Can I work with you remotely?
Yes. I work with artists worldwide entirely online — you send your files, we communicate throughout, and I deliver a professional result wherever you are.
What music genres do you specialise in?
Primarily rock, metal, indie, and alternative, but I also work across pop, country, orchestral, blues, punk, hip-hop, folk, funk, ambient, and psychedelic music.
How do I start a project?
Fill in the project form on the Start Your Project page and I'll get back to you to discuss your music and goals. If you'd prefer to talk first, you can book a free consultation directly.
What makes VARO Studio different?
Every project is handled directly by me — a graduate of the Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam with credits including Warner Chappell Music, Disturbed, Hellyeah, and Sigala. No assistants, no handoffs. You work with the same person from the first conversation to the final master.
What is the studio like?
VARO Studio Amsterdam is located on Spuistraat in Amsterdam Centrum — a professionally equipped space for recording vocals, instruments, and full arrangements. Clients coming in-studio get a focused, comfortable environment where the technical side is completely handled so they can focus entirely on performing.
Can I bring my own recordings or ideas?
Yes. Whether you have a rough demo, a voice memo, or fully recorded tracks, I can work with what you have — refining, editing, mixing, or building on top of your existing material to get it to a release-ready standard.
Do you help with songwriting and arrangement?
Yes. I work with artists on songwriting, arrangement, and orchestration — from a rough idea through to a fully produced track.
What if I don't know my sound or direction yet?
That's fine — it's more common than you'd think. I can help you explore different directions, suggest references, and work through the creative process until something clicks.
How involved can I be in the process?
As much as you want. Some clients prefer to be involved at every stage, others prefer to hand the project over and trust the process. I adapt to whatever level of involvement suits you best.
How long does a project take?
It depends on scope and complexity. A single mix or master can be turned around in a few days, while a full production takes longer. After we discuss your project I'll give you a realistic timeline upfront.
What does the workflow look like?
Every project starts with a conversation about your goals, references, and timeline. From there I put together a plan covering pre-production, recording or production, mixing, mastering, and delivery — with revisions built in at each stage.
What are your rates?
Rates vary depending on the scope and requirements of the project. Fill in the project form on the Start Your Project page and I'll get back to you with a clear proposal after we've discussed your music and goals.
